In autumn, the United Stages Vienna (VBW) are bringing their greatest popular success back to Vienna: Roman Polanski’s classic Dance of the Vampires, composed by Jim Steinman and written by Michael Kunze. Together with Elisabeth, Dance of the Vampires is the VBW’s most successful export production. In autumn, twelve years after its opening night and ten years after its journey around the world, it will receive another premiere in Vienna, this time at the Ronacher. For a short time season, Dance of the Vampires is scheduled in Vienna again.
The famous vampire researcher Professor Abronsius and his apprentice, the timid young scientist Alfred, are on an expedition to Transylvania. At a somewhat uncanny tavern, they discover a huge amount of garlic – for the professor, an unmistakable sign of vampires. Meanwhile, Alfred falls head over heels in love with Sarah, the beautiful daughter of the Jewish inn keepers Chagal and Rebecca. When Sarah suddenly disappears, Alfred and Professor Abronsius set out for Count of Krolock’s castle – the professor because he wants to disclose the secret of the vampires, and Alfred in order to save Sarah! The fearless adventurers encounter the lord of the castle, his son Herbert, the hunchbacked servant Koukol, and finally Chagal, who has become a vampire as well in the meantime. From a distance, they hear Sarah practice a song she will be singing at her glamorous appearance at Krolock’s castle. Count of Krolock is giving the great annual ball, and the entire vampire kinsfolk are rising from their graves. The mortals abduct Sarah, the charming prey of the creatures of the night. It looks as if they have successfully overcome the adventure – but they are about to face an unexpected twist of events ...
